Understanding passport verification
What is passport verification?
Passport verification is the process of confirming that an Indian passport is genuine and belongs to the person presenting it, by checking the file number and date of birth against passport records rather than trusting the physical booklet.
A business submits the file number and date of birth, VerifyAll returns the match outcome and application details as held on record — name match, date-of-birth match, application or file status, and issue details — and produces a report. It is used as an officially valid document check and for NRI onboarding.
Why businesses do it
To confirm identity for high-value onboarding, and for customers or employees who use a passport as their primary identity document.
What it validates
That the passport file exists in records, its status, and that the name and date of birth match the holder.
How it fits into KYC
It is an officially valid document check within a KYC workflow, run alongside other identity checks and screening.
When it is used
At NRI and cross-border onboarding, wealth and premium account opening, hiring, and travel-sector verification.

The deliverable
A verification report you can keep
- What it contains: the passport file number, name-match outcome, date-of-birth match, application or file status, date of issue, date of expiry and place of issue, with a timestamp for the check.
- How businesses use it: as evidence of the identity step in a KYC or onboarding file, and in internal audit and compliance records.
- How to download it: from the verification result in your VerifyAll dashboard, once the check completes.
- Where it fits: attach it to the customer, employee or applicant record it belongs to, alongside your other verification checks.
